At a prefight medical held at Emperors Palace near Kempton Park today David Kitooke and Isaac Chilembe who fight for the vacant WBO Africa light heavyweight title at the Graceland Casino in Secunda on Saturday night both weighed in within one kilogram of the limit and were declared fit to fight. In what could develop into a grudge match Kitooke from Uganda is intent on avenging the only defeat on his record by Chilembe of Malawi on an eighth round technical knockout in April last year. The fight was stopped in the eighth round because of a bad cut over Kitooke’s eye when the fight was up for grabs. Kitooke has won 10, lost 1 and drawn 1 with 9 wins coming inside the distance and Chilembe has a record of 12-1, 8 KOs.
Promoter Rodney Berman of Golden Gloves Promotions announced an entertaining undercard.
Former Olympian Jackson Chauke hopes to continue his unbeaten run in the professional ranks when he meets Sipho Nkadimeng in a flyweight contest over six rounds and in a lightweight contest Grant Fourie returns to action after his recent illness when he faces Danile Bothma in a scheduled eight.
Other fights on the bill are Junior flyweight: Ronald Parks v Charrity Mukondeleli, 4 rounds; Featherweight: Vusimuzi Manyoni v Joey Stiglingh, 4 rounds; Featherweight: Sabelo Nokhele v Ashley Dlamini, 6 rounds.
