Katsidis stops Mitchell in 3

By Karl Freitag

Australian WBO interim lightweight champion Michael Katsidis (27-2, 22 KOs) scored a punishing third round TKO over previously unbeaten and #1 rated Kevin Mitchell (31-1, 23 KOs) on Saturday night outdoors before a large disappointed crowd at the Upton Park soccer stadium in London. Katsidis rocked the hometown hero Mitchell early in round three and after a furious follow up barrage the bout was waved off by referee Dave Perris. Time was 1:57.
Unbeaten heavyweight Derek Chisora (13-0, 8 KOs) ended the career of former heavyweight title challenger Danny Williams (41-9, 31 KOs), scoring a second round TKO to claim Williams’ British belt. Williams, best known for his 2004 shock KO of Mike Tyson, had said this was his last fight win or lose.
James DeGale TKO5 Sam Horton (super middleweight)
Frankie Gavin TKO1 Gavin Tait (jr welterweight)
Billy Joe Saunders W6 Andy Butlin (super middleweight)

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
