Undefeated in thirty-three professional fights, considered one of boxing’s elite and recognized as a world champion in two different weight divisions (straw and light flyweight), Nicaragua’s Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez wants to make it clear that he is the best fighter in the world in the lower weight classes and one of the best pound for pound. “Chocolatito” (33-0, 28KOs) will make his fifth defense of his WBA light flyweight title versus Sonora, Mexico’s Juan Francisco “Gallo” Estrada (22-1, 18KOs) on Saturday, November 17th, at the Los Angeles Sports Arena on a night presented by Zanfer and which will be broadcast live in the United States by

If Gonzalez wins, he will face off against the winner of the main event between WBA flyweight champion Hernan “Tyson” Marquez and WBO champ Brian “Hawaiian Punch” Viloria for the distinction to be named as the best fighter in the world in the lower weight classes sometime in the near future.

The hard punching but technical Gonzalez, known in his native Nicaragua as “Little Arguello”, has faced all Mexicans in each and every one of his title defenses.

He captured the crown in October of 2010, knocking out Francisco “Chiquita” Rosas and has defended it against Manuel “Chango” Vargas (via unanimous decision in March ’11), Omar “Lobito” Soto (via knockout in seven rounds in October ’11) and Ramon “Principe” Garcia Hirales (via knockout in four rounds in April ’12). Between 2008 and 2010, Gonzalez was the WBA straw weight world champion, a title that he defended three times. The twenty-five year old Gonzalez is at the prime of his career and on the verge of a career defining match up against the winner of Marquez-Viloria.

“Chocolatito” wants to leave it beyond a shadow of a doubt that he is the best fighter in the world at 108 pounds, that he has the number for any Mexican opponent and that his potential looms as large as his style, his record and his ability to stop his opponents. Against Estrada he has a great challenger which has the ability to surprise.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
