Former WBO world title challenger Michael “Cold Blood” Clark (44-8) earned the interim WBC USNBC welterweight title Saturday by defeating a game, but overmatched, Brian Camechis (20-4) by a ten round unanimous decision at the Lifestyle Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio. Clark used superior skills with effective combinations and counter-punching to dominate the action throughout. Camechis was deducted a point for headbutts. Scores were 99-90, 98-91 and 97-92.
In the co-feature, heavyweights Daniel “The Mountain” Martz (7-0-1) and local “Buster” Douglas protege John L. Smith (13-0-1) battled to a ten round majority draw. The 6’7 255 pound Martz was clearly the busier fighter, but the local judges scored the bout 97-93 (Martz) and 95-95 twice. No knockdowns were recorded.
The show was promoted by Troy Speakman in conjunction with the Arnold Schwarzenegger Sports Festival.
