British boxing rising star, light heavyweight Nathan Cleverly (15-0, 5 KOs) retained his Commonwealth title at the Oasis Leisure Centre in Swindon on Friday night, stopping challenger Samson Onyango (18-4, 12 KOs) of Kenya in less than three minutes. Cleverly was simply too strong for the African fighter, he started match very strongly and with a perfectly timed body shot dropped Onyango for the full count of referee Mark Green. The end came at 2:15 of the first round. It was the second title defense for the 22-year-old Welsh warrior once again looked impressive, he has the looks, the charisma, the size, the ability and the physical and mental toughness required to go all the way and who might now be ready for a top British title fight. Sports Network promoted, with Sky Sports televising.
