A junior middleweight bout between former world champion Luis Collazo (32-5, 16 KOs) of New York and James De La Rosa (21-1, 12 KOs) of Texas is in the works for March 9th. The proposed bout would be on the undercard of the main event featuring Bernard Hopkins challenging current IBF Light heavyweight champion Tavoris Cloud. Collazo promoted by Golden Boy and De La Rosa promoted by Don King have been negotiating for a few weeks now. One of the sticking points has been the contracted weight. Collazo is looking to campaign at 147 where De La Rosa is said to be looking to fight at 154. A proposed weight of 150 has been suggested to make both sides happy. In the meantime the Collazo camp wanted it to be known that they very much want to be considered for the Floyd Mayweather Jr. sweepstakes. “It’s been said the Floyd Mayweather Jr. is still looking for an opponent for his next fight. Luis Collazo would definitely take that fight if given the opportunity,” said Collazo trainer Nirmal Lorick.
