In seperate bouts former world champions Luis Collazo now (30-4, 15 KOs) and Travis Simms now (27-1, 20 KOs) won this Saturaday night at the Radison Hotel in Columbia, South Carolina. Both fights were tuneups for the former world champions as they are looking to getting back into title contention in their perspective divisions. The card was promoted by Andrew Stokes of Palmetto Boxing.
In his first bout since his narrow defeat to WBC welterweight Andre Berto in January of this year, Collazo easily handled journeyman David Gogichaishvili now (9-17, 4 KOs). The former WBA welterweight champion Collazo put Gogichaishvili down twice in the bout. Gogichaishvili also received two standing eight counts. The referee stopped the bout in round six after consulting with the ringside physician.
The former two-time WBA junior middleweight champion Simms made quick work of veteran Marcus Luck now (9-17-1, 3 KOs) dropping him in the third round. Luck’s corner threw in the towel in the same round.
In other action, light heavyweight prospect Chris Fitzpatrick now (4-0, 1 KO) fighting out of Columbia, South Carolina remained unbeaten with a four round unanimous decision victory over Mickey Stackhouse now (6-19-1, 5 KOs).
