Dowayne Combrink stopped veteran Simon Mokoena in the second round in the main event of an action packed Box-and-Dine tournament produced by Jeff Ellis of African Ring in conjunction with Golden Gloves Promotions at the Emperors Palace near Kempton Park on Tuesday night. Fighting at super middleweight, Combrink (73,92kgs) attacked from the opening bell and rocked the 42-year-old Mokoena (74,48kgs) with some big shots to the head.
Mokoena never recovered from the battering he received in the first round as Combrink continued to apply pressure before landing with a right to the jaw that dropped Mokoena against ropes where he was counted out by referee Phillip du Randt. Time 1:19.
In the best bout of the evening welterweight Stone van Aswegan (64.48kgs) beat the rugged Willis Baloyi (64,18kgs) on a six round spilt decision. The scores were 59-55 and 58-56 for Van Aswegan and 58-56 for Baloyi.
