Robert Guerrero signs with Al Haymon

By Flattop

“Me and my partner Bob Santos, think the sky is the limit for Robert,” said co-manager Luis DeCubas Jr of the signing of Robert Guerrero to advisor Al Haymon. “We have been working on this deal over the past two years and we are glad to get it done. Robert is one of the top 147-pounders in the business.”

Guerrero is the former IBF featherweight and super feather weight champion. In late 2011, Guerrero made a challenge to then-WBC welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather. Over the next 1 1/2 years he impressively beat a series of top contenders as he moved up in weight until he captured the interim WBC welterweight title. After defending the interim title twice, including an impressive victory over two-time welter champion Andre Berto, “The Ghost” finally met “Money” in the ring on May 5, 2013. Although Mayweather won the contest, Guerrero’s entry into the welterweight class made the 147-pounders a hot division hotter than ever.

Haymon currently advises welterweight champions Floyd Mayweather Jr., Shawn Porter and Marcos Maidana among others.

When asked about future opponents, DeCubas responded: “Al Haymon will put that together. We are hoping next week to make an announcement.”

DeCubas added: “Al already advises three of our fighters so we know he works quickly!” Haymon advises Erislandy Lara (WBA jr middleweight champion), Miguel Flores (13-0 featherweight) and Mario “Golden Boy” Barrios (3-0 super bantamweight who is 18 years old and stands at six foot).

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
