By Robert Coster
Former WBA super bantamweight champion Ricardo “Maestrito” Cordoba (38-3-2, 24 KOs) of Panama returned to the ring after almost 15 months of inaction, making it a quick evening’s work with a two round stoppage of Miguel Cogollo Valdez (19-8-2, 13 KOs) of Colombia. The fight was held Friday night at the Sheraton Hotel in Colon, Panama. Cordoba’s previous fight was a decision loss in November of 2010 to Guillermo Rigondeaux for the WBA Interim title. In an another noteworthy result, rising lightweight Evens Pierre (21-1, 16 KOs) of Haiti scored a shutout decision over sturdy Colombian visitor Aristides Perez (20-7-1) in an eight round contest.
