Cotto belted in Nicaragua

Miguel Cotto arrived at the beautiful city of Managua, Nicaragua this Sunday to participate in the 89th Annual Convention of the World Boxing Association, dedicated to the memory of the legendary Alexis Arguello. During his stay in the country of lakes and volcanoes, Miguel was honored in the opening ceremonies of the Convention and shared time with the hundred of fans that were thrilled to see him in the country for the first time. During Tuesday’s Gala Dinner, Miguel received the Super Champion belt from the hands of WBA President Gilberto Mendoza. “I feel honored and humbled by this recognition here in Nicaragua. I have worked hard all of my career, and this is very rewarding. Now we will go back as motivated as ever to work hard to continue seeking higher achievements for my family and for my country.” Miguel stated.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
