Three-division world champion Miguel Cotto and WBC middleweight champion Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez began their national media tour Monday in Puerto Rico with a press conference to discuss their eagerly-anticipated PPV middleweight title collision which will take place on June 7 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Miguel Cotto: I’m very excited about the opportunity to be the first Puerto Rican champion in four divisions. I hope that on June 7 your knee is 100% so that there is no excuse when I defeat you!
Sergio Martinez: I’m sure Miguel and I will give everything to make all Latinos feel proud…I am ready for a war!
Promoter Todd duBoef: On June 7, Madison Square Garden is going to be incredible. Exciting. Electric. But I’ve I’ve got to tell you something. This guy over here, this middleweight king, he took one from me two Septembers ago against Chavez. And we were out there on Mexican Independence Weekend and the Argentine fans were screaming. They were louder than the Mexican fans. So when we made this fight, I said there’s no way the Argentine fans are going to be louder than you. So you guys make sure you don’t let me down on June 7 because this guy [Cotto] is going to go for his fourth. Never been done before.
