Word from local newspapers in Puerto Rico is that former welterweight champion Miguel Cotto (34-2, 27 KOs) has boosted his corner with the addition of Hall-of-famer Emanuel Steward as head trainer for his upcoming fight against WBA junior middleweight champion Yuri Foreman (28-0, 8 KOs). Murray Wilson, Foreman’s manager expressed to Primera Hora newspaper that Emanuel Steward had been originally hired by Foreman’s corner as a consultant, Steward however decided to take Cotto’s offer instead.
Meanwhile, Cotto , who had been highly criticized for having a relative unknown (Joe Santiago) in his corner for his lackluster win against Joshua Clottey and his devastating loss against Manny Pacquiao, will keep Santiago in his corner as an assistant. The Cotto vs Foreman fight is set for June 5th.
