‘Cowboy’ Cerrone ‘cowboys up’

When looking for inspiration for an upcoming fight, professional athletes usually go back to their roots. Whether it’s visiting old neighborhoods or looking at photo albums, athletes normally find motivation by revisiting their pasts.

Donald Cerrone is no different. The 26-year-old, who was a bull rider prior to launching a career in mixed martial arts, will attend the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) “Built Ford Tough Series” event in Pueblo, Colorado on May 16. Preparing for his fight against undefeated James Krause on June 7, Cerrone sees the chance to return to his native Colorado for a PBR event as the ultimate source of inspiration.

“I can’t begin to tell you how excited I am to be heading back to Colorado for PBR,” Cerrone, considered one of WEC’s top lightweights, said. “I’ve been training hard for my fight with James and the chance to attend one of VERSUS’ PBR events is awesome.”

Now training under the tutelage of renowned coach Greg Jackson in Albuquerque, NM, Cerrone is happy to take camp back to the “Centennial” state if only for a few days.

“I’ve got a lot of friends and training partners in Colorado, particularly in Denver,” Cerrone, who spends his days in New Mexico training with the likes of Leonard Garcia, Rashad Evans, Keith Jardine, and Georges St-Pierre, said. “If you’ve never watched or been to a bull riding event, now’s the time.”

The PBR “Built Ford Tough Series” event in Pueblo, CO will be televised on VERSUS on Saturday, May 16, and Sunday, May 17 at 10 p.m. ET. Check your local listings for details.

    Help Support Fightnews.com®

For 18 years, Fightnews.com® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
