In an upset, one-time super middleweight contender Craig McEwan (22-4-1, 11 KOs) surprisingly lost a six round unanimous decision to journeyman Dashon Johnson (15-13-3, 5 KOs) on Wednesday night on Broadway Boxing’s “Seasons Beatings” card at the B.B. King Blues Club & Grille in New York City. McEwan looked to use his distance against the much smaller Johnson, but Johnson was able to effectively get inside McEwan’s reach and score with looping shots with both hands. Scores were 58-55, 58-55, and 57-56. The loss was a major blow to the career of McEwan, who fought twice on HBO in 2011. Johnson had lost nine of his last ten coming in.
In the main event, middleweight Boyd Melson (12-1-1, 3 KOs) scored a dominant eight-round unanimous decision victory over Gundrick King (18-11, 11 KOs). All three judges tallied 80-72 for Melson.
