The final press conference for world championship boxing’s return to Omaha for the first time in 42 years, between undefeated WBO lightweight world champion Terence Crawford and unbeaten three-division champion Yuriorkis Gamboa took place Thursday at the CenturyLink Center in Omaha, Nebraska. The press conference was hosted by Top Rank VP Carl Moretti.
Terence Crawford: Saturday is going to be a great fight. I never overlook an opponent. I train my heart out because you never know with boxing. Anything might happen but I assure you that I trained the hardest. I’m just ready for whatever he brings to the table.
Yuriorkis Gamboa: My congratulations to the USA soccer team for advancing to the knockout stage of the World Cup…I’d like to thank Terence and his team for accepting this challenge and I look forward to fighting on the 28th.
Also on hand were undefeated top-five middleweight contenders Matt Korobov and Jose Uzcategui who open the HBO telecast.
Matt Korobov: I’m more than ready and looking forward to showing my best.
Jose Uzcategui: I’m looking forward to showing what I can do.
Local boxing hero Ron Stander, who challenged legendary heavyweight champion Joe Frazier in Omaha for the heavyweight title in 1972, was invited to the podium.
Ron Stander: 42 years ago when I had my chance, Frazier didn’t beat me. The doctor stopped the fight because I got a couple of little cuts. I was ready to go all night, inside, outside, the alley, whatever.
Carl Moretti: Those doctors!!!
