WBC Silver Strawweight Champion Denver Cuello-Singwangcha tipped the scales at 110 pounds as he faces a much taller Ivan Meneses who came it at 109 pounds during the official weigh-in held today at the Auditorio del Bicentenario, Morelia, Michoacán de Ocampo, Mexico.
Meneses appeared gigantic with his 5′ 6″ height as compared to Cuello’s 5′ 3″ frame. According to Cuello’s trainer manager Aljoe Jaro, “Meneses looks like Goliath beside Denver’s David like stature. But we see it as an advantage. It means he is an easier target. His body would be easier to hit. This is a good practice for our move to higher weight classes after getting a title at 105. Denver has always been a crowd pleaser before Mexican fight fans. He will perform even better tomorrow night.”
Cuello himself was surprised when he saw his opponent in person. “He made me look like a midget. But I am a Filipino. I fear no one. I will slay a dragon tomorrow night. I maybe smaller but my power will not respect his size. I am here to fight whoever is placed before me. I won’t let Meneses stand along my way towards becoming a world champion. I will still look for a good knock out victory.” Cuello told fightnews.com.
The event entitled “Belleza y Poder” is being presented by Golden Boy Promotions, Canelo Promotions, Boxeo de Gala, Televisa, Fox Deportes, and Grupo Modelo and will be held Saturday night September 29 at the Auditorio del Bicentenario, Morelia, Michoacán de Ocampo, Mexico.
