Just like her sister city to the south, San Diego is becoming a hotbed professional boxing in the first quarter of the year with three fight cards scheduled one right after the other. With California Boxing Hall of fame promoter Bobby D. Presents offering his first show of the year on Friday, February 28th and Gary Shaw Productions coming into town on March 7th in North County, the first fight card on the docket is this Friday night, February 21st, from the Del Mar Fairgrounds presented by Paco Presents in association with Jorge Marron Productions with A&T Gym. The “Ringside at Del Mar” boxing series will consist of six shows programmed for this year at the historic fairgrounds.
In the main event, Tijuana’s Fernando “Cuervito” Garcia (20-6, 13KOs) takes on hard-nosed veteran Adolfo “Tepito” Landeros (22-33-2, 10KOs) of Lakeside, CA, by way of Mexico City. Garcia, an amateur standout in his hometown, is a boxer/puncher who doesn’t know how to take a step back while the much more experienced Landeros only direction is forward so a clash of trains in expected. Landeros is a tough out for anybody as he has proven against bevy of names like Emmanuel Robles, Jamie Kavanagh, Guy Robb, Gary Russell Jr, Guillermo Rigondeux and Ronny Rios among many, many others. The bout is scheduled for eight rounds in the lightweight division.
In the semi-main event, Yucatan, Merida middleweight Elias Espadas (4-1, 2KOs) takes on Arturo Brambila (15-20, 4KOs) of Phoenix, AZ, over six rounds. Also featured on the card will be locals Roque “Rocky Ramos (2-0, 1KO) as he takes on Thomas Herrera (3-8, 1KO) of Phoenix is a featherweight four rounder as well as flyweight Jonathan Quiroz (5-1, 1KO) from Oceanside as he faces Daniel Covielles (1-0, 1KO) of Oxnard, CA.
Three more fights flesh out the card.
