Culcay returns Jan 9

A big year for Universum’s hot jr middleweight prospect Jack Culcay is over. “There were three highlights”, he said. “I won the world [amateur] championship, then signed my professional contract with Universum and had my first professional fight in December…that was certainly the most exciting year of my life.” Culcay is the first German to win an amateur boxing championship in 14 years. Five or six fights are planned for 2010, with the first set to take place on January 9 in Magdeburg. Therefore, there will only be a small celebration with friends for New Year. In Hamburg, where he works with trainer Michael Timm, Culcay will take a brief break from sparring. “At the beginning of next week we’re ready to go to Magdeburg,” he added. In 2010 the media interest will remain high. The first TV dates are being planned.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
