Former Cruiserweight King Steve ‘USS’ Cunningham’s dreams of regaining the IBF cruiserweight belt is a rematch with Tomasz Adamek, were shattered on Monday when Main Event’s boss Kathy Duva announced that Adamek had relinquished the crown. The IBF reacted quickly to Adamek’s resignation by announcing that Matt ‘Too Smooth’ Godfrey would be the next available for the vacant title and ordered negotiations to start for the fight with ‘USS’ Cunningham.
Although, Adamek is testing the heavyweight waters on Saturday against Andrew Golota in Lodz, Poland, promoter Kathy Duva says Adamek doesn’t have to make any decisions right now. “Tomasz is very comfortable at both weights; it’s a win-win situation. We want to keep all our options open,” she stated.
