Da Bomb ready for Superman

Seeing is believing for super-midlleweight Donovan George, so when the Chicago fighter finally stepped onto the scales with opponent Adonis Stevenson Thursday afternoon, he was finally reasonably assured that the fight for the #1 spot in the IBF that has had its share of stops and starts over the past few months was finally going to happen. “I actually believe it’s going to happen now,” said George after stepping off the scales after tipping them at 167.2 pounds in advance of his Friday showdown at the Bell Centre in Montreal. “Leading up to the fight I was just waiting for that phone call telling me something bad had happened. I’m very excited, I’m very well prepared, and we’re coming out here to win.”

It was a roller-coaster ride that George could have well done without but believes has given him the proper time to prepare. “It stinks because I was going to bed every night dreaming of Stevenson, then at the last minute I was fighting somebody else. I think the delay helped me dramatically. It gave me a chance to train more; originally I took the fight on twenty day notice and ended up with three months. I’m fully prepared, I’ve got no excuses, I’ve come here to fight and I’ve come here to win.”

Keys to victory for George are simple, “I got to hit him with my right hand on the chin, knock him down, if he gets up, knock him down again, and then knock him out,” ‘Da Bomb’ told FightNews. Whether he envisioned coming early in the contest or later, George responded, “I hope early, I don’t want to get hit either, the earlier the better for me.

“You know what you’re going to get with me, I’m going to put a lot of pressure on him, I’m going to test every notion and everything everybody is saying about him. Is he really ‘Superman’? Does he really have a great chin? A great punch? Everything is going to come out Friday night. I’m not really a big talker, I’m not going to talk negative about anybody, but I’ll do my talking in the ring Friday night.”
