In a battle of undefeated fighters Jo Jo Dan (26-0, 14 KOs) will be meeting Selcuk Aydin (19-0, 15 KOs) in Turkey June 5th for the WBC Silver (Interim) welterweight belt. “It’s a done deal,” Dan’s Romanian promoter Chris Ganescu of Gankor Promotions told Fightnews. Dan had been rated #1 at 140 pounds while Aydin occupies the number two position at welterweight behind Floyd Mayweather. Andre Berto holds the WBC belt at 147 pounds and would be obligated to face the winner of the bout.
It is quite the jump in both weight and level of opposition for the Montreal-based southpaw Dan who meets Aydin in his home country of Turkey. “Jo Jo Dan loves a challenge,” said Ganescu, “He did well when he had one in (Raul) Balbi, that’s how you make a name, by beating guys ranked better or better seen in the boxing world.
“Aydin has a great record but if you check it well, he’s had average or below average opposition. 13 fights finished in 1st or 2nd round?! I am not impressed! Jo Jo has had better opposition then him. He is a good puncher, but that’s about it, he won a controversial split decision to another southpaw Said Ouali last year! I think Jo Jo could win, furthermore I strongly believe he could knock him out, so you don’t leave to the judges!”
