Dawson, Bryant Victorious

By Brett Bonetti at ringside

Former two time world title challenger Daniel “The Rock” Dawson (35-3, 24 KOs) got back on the winners list with an impressive points victory over American Jason LeHoullier (21-5-1) on the “Western Alliance III” card at the Italian Club in Perth Western Australia tonight. Dawson speed was too much for LeHoullier and had him badly hurt in round two as he went on his way to a comfortable points decision. Judges scored the eight-round fight 80-72, 79-73 and 80-72.

In the Co-Main Event Robbie “Bad Boy” Bryant (13-1-1) defeated the controversial Contender Australia contestant “The Jungle Boy” Sonny Michael Angelo (16-11-2) via 8 round unanimous decision. Bryant scored a knock down in round 2 as Michael Angelo was on the back foot for the entire fight. Judges scored the bout 80-71, 80-71 and 80-72.

Interestingly in the introductions by the ring announcer, it was announced that Sonny Michael Angelo was ‘self-trained’ even though he had experienced trainer Billy Hussein in his corner.

Last month following an inquiry from the West Australian Professional Combat Sports Commission into the Danny Green vs Paul Briggs fight, Billy Hussein was found to have participated in a ‘sham contest’ in which Briggs was ordered to pay $75,000 AUD to the commission and Hussein unlikely to be registered as a trainer in Western Australia in the near future. Briggs and Hussein are appealing the decision.

In other action tonight Andrew Green defeated Mose Ioelu via unanimous decision, David Letizia defeated Brad Bond via 2nd Round TKO and Pieter Cronje won by 2nd round TKO over Oscar Siale.

Promoter was Ty Colman from CDL Boxing Promotions.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
