Daniel “The Rock” Dawson (36-3, 24 KOs) knows his fight against South Africa’s Virgil Kalakoda (25-6-2, 16 KOs) this Saturday night at the WA Italian Club in Perth Australia is “Do or Die”. Dawson will fight for the Pan Asian Boxing Association interim Light Middleweight title against Kalakoda. Kalakoda is a former IBC World Champion, hungry for the challenge to beat Dawson and move into world title contention.
Without looking past Kalakoda, “Mundine would be the ideal fight for me,” Dawson said.
“He wants to come down and win a world title at 154lbs and that’s the title I’m chasing”.
“We should meet to find out who’s the best in Australia at that weight. That’s the match-up I want”
Dawson has mapped out a five year plan for the remainder of his career.
“It is now or never and my mind set has never been more determined or driven. I know this is my last shot and I will bring everything I have, 110% of my mind, heart and soul – to this fight!”
Dawson is trained by accomplished coach and The Art of Boxing author, Bobby Mayne.
Promoter Ty Colman said that there was a chance that Mundine could be lured to WA.
“There’s been talk of doing an event here in Perth, which would be a co-promotion,” Colman said.
A good night of boxing is what Perth needs after the disappointment of two recent events. WBO Female Lightweight Champion Erin McGowan had her opponent pull out a day before her title defence and Heavyweight Mark de Mori’s opponent failed his medical test prior to their bout and it was called off.
This Saturday nights card will also feature Robbie Bryant (14-1-1, 7 KO’s) in the co Main Event against former Contender Australia cast member Les Piper (13-8-3) in a fight that will also earn the winner the International Boxing Federation Australasian belt.
Also on the card is David Letizia (8-2-1) who will battle for the PABA Light Heavyweight title against Taito Raturere (8-0, 3 KO’s).
Western Alliance 5 will be held at the WA Italian Club, North Perth, Australia this Saturday 23 July.
