World rated Australian jr middleweight Daniel Dawson (34-1, 24 KOs) will clash with Delray Raines (15-5, 10 KOs) at the Laredo Entertainment Centre, Laredo, Texas on June 19. WBA #5, IBF #11 Dawson is now based in Los Angeles under the guidance of Freddie Roach’s former right hand man – Justin Fortune. He scored his best win in 2007 when he scored a knockout in round one over former world amateur champion Anton Solopov (who holds a win over Miguel Cotto). Also in 2007, Dawson suffered his only loss when he dropped a twelve round decision in IBO middleweight title bout to Daniel Geale. (Anthony Mundine was awarded a disputed twelve round split decision over IBF#6 Geale last on May 27.) Raines has been in the ring with several world class 154 pounders including Aaron Mitchell and Tarvis Simms whom he dropped decisions to in 2008. Raines stopped Albert Martin in three rounds in his only bout for 2009. Dawson is chasing a shot at the IBF title held by Cory Spinks or a WBA title opportunity held by Daniel Santos.
