Dawson whips Tuhumury, calls out Trout

Story and photos by Brett Bonetti

Former two time world title challenger Daniel “The Rock” Dawson (38-3 -1, 25 KOs) was back to his best as he defeated Marco Tuhumury (9-10-1, 2 KO’s) by 5th Round TKO in the Main Event of Western Alliance at the WA Italian Club, North Perth, Australia tonight. Dawson was in control right from the start as he stalked Tuhumury around the ring and continually landed and combination of head and vicious body shots. Tuhumury was never able to get into the fight and didn’t land any significant punches. With a minute remaining in Round 5, Dawson sent Tuhumury to the canvas and it seemed that the fight was over, but Tuhumury barely beat the count and then looked on his way to surviving the round, however Dawson rocked Tuhumury again and sent him down for the second time with under ten seconds remaining as referee Charlie Lucas counted Tuhumury out. Time was 2:58 of Round 5.

Dawson thanked his family and friends and declared he was back to his best after tonight’s performance and said he wants to fight current WBA Light Middleweight Champion Austin “No Doubt” Trout.

Dawson’s trainer Bobby Mayne, author of “The Art of Boxing” said that his fighter had turned the corner following a rough patch and was ready to take on the best and is keen to see Dawson challenge Trout for the WBA Light Middleweight Title.

“I want Trout” Dawson said.

In the Co-Main Event Luke “You Know This” Sharp (4-0-1) seemed to have done more than enough to claim the vacant WA State Middleweight Title with a clear points decision, but the judges saw the fight differently scoring the fight as a controversial Majority Draw.

It was a tough fight with a few close rounds but Sharp seemed to land the harder and cleaner punches throughout over the durable Allan.

Judge Ben Keilty scored the fight for Sharp 99-91, while judges Carl Zappia and Charlie Lucas both had it it 95-95. Fightnews scored it 99-91 for Sharp.

Robbie Bryant kept his PABA Middleweight Belt as he was in control of the entire fight on his way to defeating Jonathan Sinamora via TKO at 2:03 of Round 7.

In his last fight, Riccardo Monteleone defeated Grant Horwood to claim the WA State Cruiserweight Title at the ripe age of 45. Monteleone was too quick for Horwood all night as he took the unanimous decision 80-72, 79-73, and 79-73.

In other action Jeremy Van Dieman defeated Chad Walker via unanimous decision in a war, Renato Oliviera defeated Daniel Maxwell via unanimous decision and Brian Olman defeated Paul Wisby by split decision in a close bout to start the night.

In attendance tonight was former WBO Female Lightweight Champion Erin McGowan who will challenge Delfine Persoon in Belgium in September for the vacant IBF Female Lightweight Title, Heavyweight Lucas ‘Big Daddy” Browne who drew an interesting pic on a napkin to share with the media, and Cruiserweight Pieter Cronje who will face Daniel Ammann in September for the Australian Cruiserweight Title.

“Western Alliance” was promoted by Ty Coleman & David Letizia from CDL Boxing Promotions, MC was Perry Cale, Friday August 17 at WA Italian Club, North Perth, Australia.
