Defecter Girl Boxer victorious

19-year-old champion retains WBA belt

Unbeaten 19-year-old WBA female featherweight champion “Defector Girl Boxer” Hyun-Mi Choi (4-0-1, 1 KO) retained her world title for the third time with by ten round split decision over interim champion Claudia Andrea Lopez (14-5, 3 KOs) on Friday night at the Sungkyunkwan University Gymnasium in Suwon, South Korea. Scores were 96-95, 96-95 for Hyun-Mi and 98-93 for Lopez.

The popular Hyun-Mi, who defected with her family from North Korea in 2004, won the WBA belt in her second pro fight at the age of 17.
