The co-feature for Saturday’s Carl Froch – Jermain Taylor fight looks to be an interesting match-up of two exciting super middleweights when WBC # 14 ranked Carlos DeLeon, Jr. (21-2-2, 14 KOs) takes on #15 WBC ranked Allen Green (27-1, 19 KO’s). The soon to be 30-year-old DeLeon is the son of 4-time cruiserweight champion Carlos ‘Sugar’ DeLeon. “My father was a big influence on my career, he is a legend and it’s great that I have a Dad like that”, said the proud son.
Junior Sugar’s biggest win to date is a seventh round TKO over another former champion’s son James McGirt, Jr. last April. DeLeon’s aggressive style and good punching power should make him a star with boxing fans but inconsistency and neglect of defense at times has kept him from the big time.
His uncle Juan DeLeon has been managing his career lately and recently took over reins as his trainer. He feels the change will give his career the needed push. “I didn’t have the right people to push my career along, I have the right promoter and the right manager now and that will make the difference.”
A win over Green on a premier boxing channel and having family in his corner may be the tonic for bigger and better opportunities in the future. “This fight means a lot for me right now. I am ready for this fight against a tough opponent. Right now I am focusing on this fight and hopefully I will have big things come my way after Saturday night”.
