Delgado vs. Ruiz in Atlanta

By Jose E. Santiago

On Saturday night at the beautiful Buckhead Theater in Atlanta GA, local boxer and now promoter Paul “The Truth” Delgado will lock horns with Mike Ruiz of New York for the WBF Intercontinental Super Welterweight title. The fight card titled ATL Boxing is being presented by Delgado Boxing Promotions in association with Lisa Hudson-Webb’s Mazereon Management, and will feature not only Delgado but a couple of legitimate prospects as they work their way towards recognition on a national level.

First will be cruiser-weight Mike “Cannon Handz” Seals as he puts his 11-0 7KO record on the line against veteran hard hitting Joseph Harris (11-12 8KO) in a six round match-up. Seals is a flashy but composed fighter known for his speed and unrelenting power.

Also featured is undefeated welterweight Jared Robinson (10-0 4KO). Robinson has blazing hand speed and is known for his ability to stay in control of a fight from beginning to end. He’ll be pitted against local favorite and Mexican warrior Jesus “La Sombra” Tavera (4-1 1KO). After losing his pro debut in 2010 Tavera has strung together 4 victories. Fitting the Mexican warrior mantra Tavera is a tough fighter with a “leave it all in the ring” attitude.

Rounding out the card in the main event, in a crossroads encounter is Atlanta’s Paul “The Truth” Delgado (26-11-1 4KO) against Mike Ruiz (16-7 8KO) for the vacant WBF Intercontinental super welterweight title. After suffering two losses earlier in 2011, Delgado bounced back in December and beat tough guy Ruben Galvan for a version of the WBF title. Now he has made it public that at the age of 36 this will be his final push at world title shot. A well educated gentlemen with a degree in Engineering Delgado is lining things up for his life after boxing professionally. With a very successful and popular gym in Atlanta (Delgado Boxing) and now promoting events, the well respected entrepreneur kept it simple in a recent conversation by saying “I still have all my wits and I’m very well educated with a wealth of knowledge. After this title run I’ll be ready to explore and succeed on other goals I’ve set for myself.”

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
