It looks like former WBC champion Adrian Diaconu will fight a rematch with former victim Chris Henry on March 12, 2011 in Montreal. The last time out, April 19, 2008, Diaconu just narrowly won a unanimous decision for the vacant WBC Interim title in Bucharest, Romania. This time, the vacant WBC Silver belt will be up for grabs. Henry was to have faced Roberto Bolonti of Argentina, but Bolonti came up injured, so the WBC, at it’s 48th annual convention in Cancun, Mexico, decided to sanction Diaconu-Henry for the Silver belt.
Super agent Don Majewski, who proposed Diaconu replace the injured Bolonti, also went to bat for IBF Super Middleweight champ Lucian Bute- pitching that Bute be allowed to fight for the WBC Silver belt in that division, enabling him to be in position to fight the winner of the Showtime Super Six Super Middleweight tournament. Mejewski’s angle was that Bute was not invited to the tourny by the powers that created it, and wrongfully so. The request was met with a request by WBC president, Jose Sulaiman, stating, “Put the proposal in writing and forward it to the WBC offices.”
Bute and his representatives will be ringside at the Allan Green, Glenn Johnson fight on Saturday in Las Vegas and will conduct a mid day press conference announcing a three fight deal with Showtime, which will hopefully culminate in a match with the eventual Super Six tournament winner.
At this time, Bute is not expected to enter into the tournament, which has already had several drop outs and additions.
