Diaz-Ngoudjo in May

By Dave Spencer / Fightnews Canada

Hermann Ngoudjo will be meeting two-time world champion Julio Diaz on May 14th from the Buffalo Bill Casino in Primm Nevada promoter for Montreal super-lightweight confirmed on Wednesday. The matchup will be part of an ESPN2 broadcast of Friday Night Fights. Ngoudjo returned from a broken jaw and year off this past February with a TKO victory over Silverio Ortiz. “There’s an agreement in place but no signed contracts as of yet,” said Yvon Michel, promoter for Ngoudjo. “It’s a good fight for both fighters and particularly a good fight for Hermann. He proved in his last fight he was back and I think this kind of opposition will prove it to everybody. A win could launch him right back to another world title shot.” Ngoudjo (18-3, 10 KOs) has had a pair of title shots and come up short both times, losing a close decision to Paulie Malignaggi and going the distance with Juan Urango despite breaking his jaw in round three. Diaz (36-6, 26 KOs) lost out on his bid in 2007 to become unified champion to Juan Diaz and has gone 2-2 since, including a loss last July to undefeated Victor Cayo.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
