IBF featherweight champion Billy “the Kid” Dib (33-1, 20 KOs) will make the second defense of the title on March 7 when he will clash with Mexico’s Eduardo “Canilla” Escobedo (32-3, 23 KOs) at the Derwent Entertainment Centre, Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. Dib said “The Mexican is unbeaten since 2007 and holds an impressive 32-3 record. He is the #1 contender. He has a great record. When you get a Mexican, you always have a good fight … they have that warrior mentality. Unfortunately for him he is coming up against someone who is willing and determined. I’ve got the title and he is not taking it anywhere.”
Dib captured the vacant title in July 2011 with a impressive win over well credentialed Mexican Jorge Lacierva and defended successfully with a KO in round one over Italy’s Alberto Servidei in November.
Escobedo is coming off a 2nd round KO win over Joksan Hernandez in July 2011.
Dib is trained by Billy Hussein and Escobedo by Ignacio Beristan.
Promoter Bill Treacy and Gary Shaw. Matchmaker Garrie Francisco.
