DiBella says Martinez is out until the first half of 2014, but is willing to fight Golovkin in the future

Promoter Lou DiBella told Fightnews.com today that WBC middleweight champion Sergio “Maravilla” Martinez is willing to face WBA middleweight king Gennady Golovkin in the future. “Sergio reached out to Sampson (Lewkowicz) and me today,” DiBella told Fightnews.com. “He said that history will show that he has embraced every challenge available to him in his career. His legacy will be that he was always willing to fight the best. Right now, his concentration is on healing and rehabilitation and he will not fight until sometime in the first half of 2014. He wanted to make it clear that he is willing to fight Gennady Golovkin in the future. Any conversations now about timing would be premature and inappropriate. Tell all your little Twitter followers to calm down and enjoy watching Golovkin in the meantime.”

For 18 years, Fightnews.com® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
