Jorge Arce on retirement:
I promised my children that if I lost this would be my last fight.
Nonito Donaire on his TKO over Jorge Arce:
My left hook was damaging tonight. I felt I could land it whenever I wanted. I felt very strong in the ring. I first hit him in the neck before finishing him off. Arce is a great fighter. It was difficult for me to get him in the beginning, he was wary of that left hook. It was hard to hit him until I got him to open up. I made him comfortable to start throwing. That was the key. The reason why people survive is that they’re afraid to open up. Arce, I have a lot of respect for him, he opened up. He wasn’t afraid.
Arce is a good friend of mine, he will always be a friend of mine. I just timed him, I was faster and the younger one tonight. When he opened up, that gave me the left hook. When I can throw while sitting down on that left hook, everyone will go down.
Nonito Donaire on his countrymen:
I’m hoping that Filipino’s can enjoy this win and be proud.
Nonito Donaire on his left hook:
It was the same hook that I got Montiel with. I sat down with it. When I hit people and I sit down on the punches, they’ll go down.
Nonito Donaire on his damaged hand:
The knuckle is excellent. I asked the doctor if he thought I should fight. He said it’s not going to be 100%. Tonight it didn’t bleed, but I was worried about it.
Nonito Donaire on his future:
I’m going to rest and have a good holiday. I’ll come back next year. We want everybody, whoever is next to my name we’ll go for it.
Robert Garcia on his fighter:
Nonito’s power tonight was unreal. He was perfect. Wherever Nonito hits you, it’s going to hurt and it’s going to hurt really bad.
