Donaire left opponent-less

Donaire poses with his unknown opponent at today's presser.

Nonito Donaire  (22-1, 14 KOs) has been left opponent-less for his Saturday night main event in Las Vegas. Donaire was scheduled to fight  Gerson “El Nene” Guerrero (34-8, 26 KOs), but the Mexican contender was nixed from the card today, shortly before a scheduled press conference at the Hilton, for failing an eye exam. “We have received word from Tijuana,” joked promoter Bob Arum. “Pancho Villa is on horseback leading an army of 115-pound Mexicans to challenge Donaire.” A replacement is expected in the next 24 hours. — Story & photo by Chris Cozzone

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
