WBO world jr. featherweight champion Nonito Donaire, who is preparing for Saturday’s world championship battle against undefeated WBA world super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux at the historic Radio City Music Hall in New York City, had some other business in town on Thursday night. “The Filipino Flash” was at the CAPITALE restaurant attending the 88th Annual BWAA Awards Dinner where he was presented with the 2012 BWAA Sugar Ray Robinson “Fighter of The Year” award.
Among other receiving honors were Hall of Fame Top Rank matchmaker Bruce Trampler, who won the 2012 Barney Nagler Award for “Long and Meritorious Service” and trainer Robert Garcia who won the 2012 Eddie Futch Award for “Trainer of the Year.” Hall of Fame Top Rank promoter Bob Arum and former world champion Roy Jones Jr. accepted the awards for the “Fight of the Year” between Juan Manuel Marquez vs Manny Pacquiao. Neither Marquez or Pacquiao were able to attend.
