Only three days remain for this weekend’s showdown’s between WBO/IBF jr. featherweight champion Nonito “Filipino Flash” Donaire (29-1, 18 KOs) and WBC Diamond super bantamweight champion Japan’s Toshiaki Nishioka (39-4-3, 24 KOs) as well as Oxnard’s Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios (30-0-1, 21 KOs) as he takes on Mike “Mile High” Alvarado (33-0, 23 KOs) of Denver. The four were on hand Wednesday afternoon at Fortune Gym in Hollywood, California working out for media as they get ready for Saturday nights HBO Boxing After Dark card from the Home Depot Center in Carson, California.
“Expect an all action card you will see these four guys that know how to fight going at each other, it is going to be tremendous,” Arum said on the topic of Saturday’s card.
It will be a battle between two Asian stars as the pride of San Leandro California, by way of the Philippines Nonito Donaire will take on Japan’s Toshiaki Nishioka for Donaire’s WBO & IBF Jr. Featherweight title.
“It is an unbelievable fight. Nishioka has been the best 122 pounder for a long time he is a hell of a fighter! Now Donaire looks like he wants to take his place it should be a good fight,” Arum said.
“Training is great. We have trained so hard that we are very confident and ready for him. He is going to have power and everything he trained for but we have the speed advantage. You will see a smart and sharp Nonito Donaire,” Donaire told Fightnews.com.
The Japanese fighter arrived as he was swarmed by the media as he is looking to make an impact for the biggest fight of his career.
“This training camp has been the greatest camp I have had and I am looking for his left hook. We will put together a game plan along the fight depending on his style. He is the pound for pound number four on the list and if I beat him that brings me to that position. I am ready to fight,” Nishioka told Fightnews.com.
Brandon Rios and Mike Alvarado will open Saturday nights HBO telecast for the WBO Latino Jr. Welterweight title in which should be a fight of the year candidate as both fighters enjoying slugging it out.
“There are two main events, this fight is also a main event between Rios and Alvarado I can’t wait to see that fight I don’t know who is going to win it, this will be like Corrales Castillo, Gatti Ward it’s going to be a war,” Arum told Fightnews.com.
“I trained very hard I am always ready one hundred percent. Now I am good with my weight, I am not training to lose weight since I was a 140 pounder fighting at 135. I definitely stepped it up for this fight. I expect Alvarado to come forward and bang it out we are ready to give fans what they want,” Rios told Fightnews.com.
“Training was great everything fell in place at the right time strength and weight is good, I have sharpened up all my assets, I expect Rios to be strong in shape at his best ready to fight you will see my best performance and put on a good show,” Alvarado told Fightnews.com.
