While the boxing world has been littered with all sizes and styles of Rocky’s over the years, there have been very few Drago’s to compliment the cultural landscape.
Meet Denis “Drago” Grachev (12-0-1 8KO), Russian built, peroxide brush cut, a stoic man of few words who plans to do his talking in the ring this Saturday night as he meets former world champion Lucian Bute (30-1 24KO).
“People just keep calling me Drago, but Drago already exists,” Grachev told the Montreal media as he and Bute went face to face for the first time. While Grachev didn’t exactly kill Apollo Creed in his last fight, he did manage to knock of highly hyped and undefeated Ismayl Sillakh who was ranked #2 at the time by the WBC in a bout where the referee was coincidentally called “Rocky” (Burke).
Unlike Balboa though, this Drago believes that Bute is human. And that his chin is less than iron.
“I don’t like part that Lucian has already one loss, I like to fight undefeated guys,” Grachev told FightNews. “I think Froch hurt him little bit and he has something in his mind, he know he can lose again.”
“Lucian can touch me as many times as he wants; I’m going to punch him hard, and after my punch, you’re going to see the finish.
