Pinoy super bantamweight prospect Drian “Gintong Kamao” Francisco (23-1-1, 18 KOs) scored a first round knockout win against Mexican Jose Carlos Vargas at the Estadio Hector Espino, in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. Francisco appeared to be in great shape and connected with a perfect right straight sending Vargas to the canvas upon the opening bell of the very first round. A barrage of body shots sent Vargas down for the second time. Smelling blood, Francisco pummeled his Mexican opponent with combinations to the head and body thus sending Vargas down for good.
Drian who trains at the Touch Gloves Stable is on a three fight winning streak following his decision win over Michael Domingo and his recent first round knock out of Thai Pichitchai Twins Gym.
“I am very happy with the win. What makes it even more special is that I won on foreign soil. I believe I am back on track and will be ready for another world title fight very soon. Thanks to my manager Elmer Anuran for this chance and for believing in me. I will stay in the US to train more. According to my manager, we will try to secure a slot in the undercard of the Viloria vs. Marquez unification bout,” Francisco told this scribe via phone.
