Promoter Kathy Duva of Main Events officially announced on St. Patrick’s Day at the Legends bar and restaurant in New York City that middleweight contender John Duddy (26-0, 17 KOs) will go toe-to-toe with veteran Billy Lyell (18-7, 3 KOs) on Friday, April 24th at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. Duddy and cruiserweight Patrick Farrell – who is also fighting on the undercard – signed autographs for the fans but did not partake in the traditional celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. “I’m in training in Miami and of all the nights to have to go back they have to pick tonight,” said Duddy. “So have a pint for me!” Duva said: “I am happy to return to the Prudential Center with another installment of the ‘Main Event Boxing Series’ featuring one of today’s most exciting fighters. I know John Duddy’s fans will be as loud and colorful as the Polish fans were when Adamek fought at the Prudential Center!” In February, Duva promoted the first defense of IBF cruiserweight champion Tomasz Adamek against Johnathon Banks at the Prudential Center. She was also the promoter when Adamek captured his title from Steve Cunningham in December 2008 at the same location. An exciting undercard showcasing world-class and top local fighters will be announced shortly. Tickets are $38, $53, $78, $103, or $253, and can be purchased at Prudential Center Box Office or by calling TicketMaster at 201-507-8900.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
