Duenas headlines in Pomona

Professional boxing returns to the Inland Empire as Showdown Promotions presents a scheduled six-bout card at the Finish Line Sports Grill in Pomona, CA on Saturday night. In the main event of the “Champions of the Tomorrow” card, welterweight Ricky Duenas will take on Lawrence Hughes in a six round welterweight bout.

In his last bout on March 31st, Duenas (10-1, 4 KOs) knocked out Rufino Torres in the second round of a scheduled six round bout. He has won his last 10 bouts in a row since losing his professional debut to Isauro Tapia in September of 2008. Duenas resides in El Monte, CA.

Hughes, from Las Vegas, NV, has lost his last two bouts after beginning his professional career with four straight victories. He was stopped in the fourth round of his last bout in November by Chris Rudd.

Having fought just two weeks ago down the street at the Fairplex, lightweight Edwin Solis will face Ivan Castellanos in a scheduled four round bout. Solis (3-2, 3 KOs) lost to unbeaten Vahe Saruhan in his last outing on the Top Rank card, while Castellanos (1-1) will fight for the first time since last July.

Lightweights Holly Lawson and Elisa Moreno will square off in a scheduled four round bout. Originally from British Columbia, Lawson (2-2) also fought two weeks ago at the Fairplex, defeating Tammy Franks by a four round decision. Moreno (2-1-1) defeated Molly Estes by unanimous decision in her last bout in November.

Rounding out the card will be Robert Guzman (1-0) of Riverside, CA taking on Hector Castro (0-1) in a scheduled four round welterweight bout, while Oscar Venegas (2-0, 1 KO) and Santiago Alonso (0-4) meet in a scheduled four round super bantamweight bout. Kevin Sagado and Felipe Lira square off in a battle of lightweights making their professional debuts.
