In his most impressive performance as a pro, undefeated WBA #5, WBC #10, IBF #13 rated heavyweight Kevin “Kingpin” Johnson (22-0-1, 9 KOs) scored a sixth round TKO over previously unbeaten 2004 Olympic team captain Devin Vargas (17-1, 7 KOs) on Friday night at Harrah’s Resort in Atlantic City, NJ. Vargas pressed the action early on, but Johnson (who had predicted a knockout) dropped Vargas with a barrage of punches at the end of rounds three and five, in round six Vargas’ corner threw in the towel to save their beaten fighter. Time was 2:23. Vargas, who took the fight on short notice, complained that he couldn’t hear out of his right ear.
Lightweight Jorge “The Truth’ Teron (23-1-1, 15 KOs) avenged the only loss of his career with a workmanlike ten round unanimous decision over 38-year-old veteran Aldo Valtierra (25-11, 13 KOs). Scores were 96-94, 97-93, 99-91.
Former WBA heavyweight champion of the world, Bruce “The Atlantic City Express” Seldon (40-7, 35 KOs) stopped 359lb Gabe “Big G” Brown (18-10-4, 12 KOs) in round five.
Light heavyweight hopeful Chuck “The Professor” Mussachio (13-0-2, 5 KOs) stayed unbeaten with a six round decision over against former WBA light middleweight champion Carl Daniels (50-16-1, 32 KOs).
