Shocker: Brewer TKOs Guerrero
40-year-old Grady “Bad Boy” Brewer (29-12, 17 KOs) scored a stunning fourth round TKO over previously unbeaten and world rated Fernando Guerrero (21-1, 16 KOs) in a junior middleweight bout on Friday night at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin Texas. Brewer dropped Guerrero with a series of right hands in round four and finished him moments later with an uppercut. Referee Jon Schorle waved it off at 2:16.
Brewer, best known for winning the popular TV reality series “The Contender” in 2006, claimed the NABF title. Guerrero entered the ring rated WBC #6 at super welterweight and WBO #5/WBA #6/IBF #15 at middleweight.
Welterweight Karim “Hard Hitta” Mayfield (14-0-1, 9 KOs) scored a tenth round TKO over former IBF junior lightweight champion Steve “2 Pound” Forbes (35-10, 11 KOs). After a fairly lackluster fight, a barrage of punches by Mayfield prompted referee Gregorio Alvarez to step in at 1:03 of the final round. It was the first time Forbes has been stopped.
Unbeaten welterweight and former amateur standout Javontae Starks (5-0, 4 KOs) won a four round split decision over Antonio Gamez (6-4-1, 1 KO). Scores were 39-37 and 40-36 Starks, 39-37 Gamez.
