Junior welterweight Paulie Malignaggi (27-3, 5 KOs) gained revenge against Juan Diaz (35-3, 17 KOs), taking a twelve round unanimous decision on Saturday night at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago. All three judges scored it 116-111. Malignaggi was erroneously credited with a knockdown in round ten by referee Gino Rodriguez. Diaz had won a controversial decision over Malignaggi in August.

Welterweight Victor Ortiz (25-2-1, 20 KOs) returned from his loss to Marcos Maidana with a seventh round TKO over veteran Antonio Diaz (45-6-1, 27 KOs). Ortiz dropped Diaz in round three and the bout ended between rounds six and seven when Diaz could not continue due to a bad cut over his left eye.

Welterweight Randall Bailey (40-7, 35 KOs) scored a dominant eight round unanimous decision over Germaine Sanders (27-8, 17 KOs) by scores of 78-71, 79-70 and 77-72. The former two-time world champion had Sanders down three times.

Junior middleweight Ronald Hearns (23-1, 18 KOs) stopped Shadrack Kipruto (10-12, 7 KOs) at the 2:33 mark of round six.

Heavyweight Dominick Guinn (32-6-1, 21 KOs) won a six round unanimous decision over journeyman Charles Davis (19-18-2, 4 KOs). Scores were 58-56, 58-56, 60-54.

Welterweight Jermell Charlo (10-0, 4 KOs) scored a second round KO over previously unbeaten Abdon Lozano (6-1, 1 KO).

Junior lightweight Argenis Mendez (15-1, 9 KOs) outpointed Morris Chule (7-8-1, 7 KOs) over eight rounds by scores of 78-74, 80-72, 80-72.

Junior welterweight Hylon Williams (12-0, 3 KOs) swept past Humberto Tapia (14-12-1, 7 KOs) over eight by scores of 80-72 on all cards.

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
