Welterweight Breidis Prescott (23-2, 19 KOs) scored a ten round unanimous decision over Harrison Cuello (19-13-3, 14 KOs) at Chicago’s UIC Pavilion. Prescott, best known for his spectacular first round knockout of current world champion Amir Khan in 2008, scored a knockdown in round nine and went on to a 98-91, 99-90, 99-90 win.

Comebacking Chicago heavyweight Mike Mollo (20-3-1, 12 KOs) could only manage an eight round majority draw against Gary Gomez (18-11-2, 7 KOs). Scores were 77-75 Mollo and 76-76 twice. The draw snapped Gomez’ four fight losing streak.

Junior welterweight prospect Patrick Lopez (20-2, 12 KOs) battered previously unbeaten Prenice Brewer (15-1-1, 6 KOs) until the bout was waved off at 2:38 of round two.

Lightweight Antonio Avila (3-1-1, 1 KO) dropped unbeaten Russell Fiore (4-0-1, 4 KOs) in round one, but Fiore scored a knockdown just before the final bell to salvage a majority draw. Scores were 37-37 on two cards and 38-36 for Avila.

The card was presented by Chicago’s 8 Count Productions in association with Vega Boxing.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
