Hernandez KOs Corley

Welterweight Freddy “El Riel” Hernandez (28-1, 19 KOs) scored a spectacular fifth round KO over former world champion DeMarcus “Chop Chop” Corley (36-13-1, 21 KOs) on Friday night at the Chumash Casino Resort in Santa Ynez, Calif. A very competitive, good action fight ended suddenly when Hernandez laid out Corley with a huge right hand. Time was 1:48.

Hard-hitting, undefeated junior welterweight Francisco Contreras (13-0, 12 KOs) passed his toughest test in spectacular fashion, scoring a first round knockout of Juan Castaneda, Jr. (16-3, 12 KOs). A sharp combination finished Castaneda after 98 seconds.

Former amateur star Lateef Kayode remained unbeaten with a second round knockout over durable David Whitton in a scheduled six round bout. Whitton (10-12-1, 6 KO’s) came to fight, scoring with straight right hands to the head of Kayode. Undeterred, Kayode (10-0, 9 KO’s) ended matters in the second, dropping Whitton with a left hand to the head. Whitton was on one knee as referee Jerry Cantu counted him out at 1:23.

Unbeaten Heavyweight Emad Ali (5-0, 3 KO’s) impressively outworked Chris Green (7-5-1, 5 KO’s) over six rounds, winning by unanimous decision. All three judges scored the bout in favor of Ali, with scores of 59-55, 59-55, and 60-54.

Super Welterweight Ruben Rivera (4-0-1, 3 KO’s) stopped Derrick Thomas (2-9-1, 1 KO) at 49 seconds of the first round of a scheduled four round bout. The wild-swinging Rivera went at Thomas, stunning him against the ropes. Referee Pat Russell stepped in to stop the bout, despite Thomas’ protests.

Local Featherweight Rufino Serrano (4-2) won a four round unanimous decision over Jose Pacheco (2-11-6). All three judges scored the bout 40-36 in favor of Serrano.
