Unbeaten WBC #1 middleweight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (42-0-1, 30 KOs) scored a one-sided ten round unanimous decision over Billy Lyell (22-9, 4 KOs) on Saturday night before a crowd on 12,000+ at the Estadio Banorte in Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico. Chavez was on a “seek and destroy” mission, looking to use his superior firepower to beat down the outgunned Lyell. The scrappy Lyell battled to the end, but Chavez prevailed 99-92, 96-94, 98-92. Chavez retained his WBC silver belt and is in line to face Sebastian Zbik for the WBC middleweight title.
Super welterweight Saul Roman (34-8, 29 KOs) recovered a second round knockdown with a vengeance, stopping WBC #11 Michael Medina (24-3-2, 19 KOs) with a violent assault in the same round. Time was 1:53.
WBC interim female super bantamweight champion Jackie Nava (23-3-2, 11 KOs) retained her belt with a ten round unanimous decision over Frede Gonzalez (6-7-1, 2 KOs). Scores were 99-91, 99-91 and 100-90.
