Powell beats Latimore in rematch

In an IBF jr middleweight eliminator, Sechew Powell (26-2, 15 KOs) won a twelve round majority decision over Deandre Latimore (25-3, 15 KOs) on Friday night at the Choctow Casino in Durant, Oklahoma. Powell outboxed the harder punching Latimore, busting up Latimore’s right eye in the process. Scores were 117-111, 116-112 Powell, 114-114. With the win, Powell avenges a 2008 TKO loss to Latimore that cost Powell his #1 rating at the time.
Unbeaten super middleweight Edwin Rodriguez (14-0, 10 KOs) needed just 47 seconds to annihilate George Armenta (13-6, 11 KOs). A left to the body put Armenta down for the count.
Unbeaten junior welterweight Prenice Brewer (14-0-1, 6 KOs) won a harder than expected six round unanimous decision over game Chris Fernandez (18-9, 11 KOs). Scores were 58-56, 59-55, 59-55.

    Help Support®

For 18 years,® has delivered daily boxing news to fight fans around the globe. From the beginning, we have always kept Fightnews free to our readers and relied on advertiser support. Anyway, the Miami Herald, The Guardian, and Wikipedia among others have been using the “crowdfunding” revenue model, so we thought we’d test it too.

Please consider helping out. You’re not obligated to, but even a $1 pledge would really help. And if we reach our goal, we plan to upgrade our server and maybe even nuke the ads altogether. Wouldn’t that be nice?
