WBA/WBO #3 junior featherweight Antonio Escalante (20-2, 13 KOs) scored a ten round unanimous decision over Cornelius Lock (18-4-1, 10 KOs) on Friday, night at the Don Haskins Center in El Paso, Texas. The hometown favorite Escalante dropped Lock twice in round three, rocked him again in the fourth, and broke down Lock the rest of the fight. The game, but outgunned Lock withstood the assault to go the full ten, but the 100-88, 100-88, 98-90 scores reflected Escalante’s dominance.
Junior featherweight Jose Beranza (32-15-2, 25 KOs) upset previously unbeaten Juan Velasquez (9-1, 5 KOs) vis six round unanimous decision. Beranza, who had lost six of his last seven fights, dropped Velazquez twice in round three, knocked out Velazquez’ mouthpiece with a sharp punch in round five, and closed the fight stronger to win 58-54, 58-54, 57-55.
Juan Velasquez’ unbeaten twin brother Carlos Velasquez (11-0, 9 KOs) scored a one-sided six round unanimous decision over Juan Nazario (6-2-1, 4 KOs). Scores were 60-53 on all cards. Nazario was deducted a point for holding in round five.
