A steady right hand and finally a barrage of punches gave Tijuana fan favorite Jackie “Aztec Princess” Nava (28-4-3, 11 KOs) the win and another defense of her WBA super bantamweight title over Lisa “Bad News” Brown (19-6-3, 6 KOs) on Saturday night at the LA Cetto Vineyard in the Valle de Guadalupe near Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico. Southpaw Brown pressured early but Nava remained calm as she countered beautifully over Brown’s left hook. The end came once Nave caught Brown with one too many rights and followed up with a barrel ful of leather. Official time was 1:46 of the third round.
An accidental head butt suffered by Ruben “Canelito” Tamayo (20-3-1, 14KOs) in the opening seconds of the scheduled eight round super bantamweight bout versus Raul “Rayito” Hirales (18-1-2, 8KOs) forced the contest to be stopped. The result was a technical draw.
Despite dropping former champ Rodrigo Guerrero (17-4-1, 11KOs) in the first round, Mexicali, Mexico’s Jonathan Lecona (15-12, 10KOs) didn’t answer the bell for sixth round of a scheduled bantamweight ten. Guerrero of Mexico City kept the pressure up on the southpaw Lecona forcing him to quit.
Featherweight Angel Rodriguez (3-0, 2KOs) scored a unanimous decision over Jesus Badillo (6-1, 4KOs) to remain undefeated and hand Badillo his first loss. No official scores were announced.
Tall and lanky Venezuelan middleweight Jose Uzcategui (13-0, 10KOs) finished off yet another opponent in Jose Luis Vazquez (6-2, 4KOs) of Tijuana. A body shot at the 2:02 of the first round did the trick.
In a battle of featherweight first timers, Tijuana’s Eduardo Galindo (1-0, 1KO) was a awarded a TKO win after scoring a barrage of unanswered punches on Miguel Angel Zapata (0-1). The end came at the 2:22 mark of the 1st round.
Flyweight Jonathan “Bomba” Gonzalez (10-0, 9KOs) made quick work of Saul “Bebe” Hernandez (3-4, 1KO), stopping him at the :26 mark of the second round. Gonzalez of Puerto Rico dropped Hernandez of Tijuana once in the first before knocking him out with a straight right.
Ensenada, MX’s bantamweight Jonas Salvatierra (3-0)remained undefeated with a unanimous decision over Tijuana’s Juan “Pitufo” Gomez (2-2, 1KO). The bout was a scheduled four rounder.
Local Miguel Angel Padro (1-1) earned his first pro win with a unanimous decision over first timer Carlos Ocampo (0-1), also of Ensenada, Mexico, in a four round lightweight contest.
Super lightweight Alonso Chavez (1-0) of Tijuana made his pro debut a good one with a split decision win over Jose Luis Cervantes (0-2) also of Tijuana in a four rounder.
